Japanese rose Princess Lieve at a glance
Princess Lieve is a rose with a story. Not a stroke of luck, but the result of passion, patience, and love for the craft.
This exceptional rose was bred in Aalsmeer by a small family business that crosses roses as a hobby, not for mass production. For Princess Lieve, Japanese and German rose lines were carefully combined according to the Japanese approach to breeding: focusing on flower shape, balance, refinement, and emotion.
The meaning behind the name
Lieve is a girl’s name in the Netherlands—rare, gentle, and elegant. At the same time, lieve means “dear” in English: precious, beloved. That is exactly the feeling this rose evokes. Princess Lieve is not a rose you quickly pick out; she is one that touches you.
Japanese refinement in flower form
The flower form of Princess Lieve is truly exceptional. Perfectly structured, elegant, and balanced, with an almost artistic appearance. Her fragrance is light and subtle, present without being overpowering. This makes her suitable both for the garden and for use in bouquets.
This is a rose you keep looking at—every time it blooms.
From shrub rose to cut rose
At Belle Epoque, Princess Lieve is currently available in a small quantity as a shrub rose. At the same time, she is also growing as a cut rose in Aalsmeer, where her form and quality show great promise.
Princess Lieve is being tested internationally in Colombia and Kenya. She is expected to become available as a cut rose from Colombia later this year, and will also be introduced as a garden rose in the United States. A rose that is clearly ready for a larger stage while retaining her exclusive character.

Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
"Beautiful climbing rose, bloomed abundantly in the very first year! Well packaged and exactly what I expected based on the description. Belle Époque truly delivers top quality."
