About Japanese Rose BI – Song of Hiroshima (Song of Hiroshima)

Japanese Rose BI – Song of Hiroshima is a rose with emotional depth and gentle strength. Its lilac-pink flowers bloom in clusters, giving the shrub a light, almost floating appearance. This is a rose that is not only beautiful, but also tells a story.

Song of Hiroshima fits perfectly with the Japanese idea that flowers should not only be seen, but also felt.

The meaning behind the name

Song of Hiroshima means Song of Hiroshima. The name poetically refers to remembrance, vulnerability, and hope. In Japan, beauty is often associated with transience and recovery – and those very layers come together in this rose.

It is a name that sounds gentle, yet carries a profound meaning.

Japanese origins & breeding

This rose was bred by Kazuzo Tagashira in Japan, before 2011.
Song of Hiroshima belongs to the Hybrid Moschata / shrub rose group, known for its natural growth habit, clustered blooms, and value in the garden.

Its exact parentage is unknown, giving this rose a certain mystique that suits its name perfectly.

Flower & fragrance

  • Flower colour: lilac-pink

  • Flower form: semi-double (9–16 petals), in clusters

  • Fragrance: light and delicate

  • Blooming: in waves throughout the season

The clustered blooms create a rich appearance without making the shrub look heavy. The flowers move with the light and wind, giving the rose an almost musical quality.

Growth & use in the garden

Japanese Rose BI – Song of Hiroshima grows into an elegant shrub with a natural shape.

  • Height: approx. 100–120 cm

  • Type: Hybrid Moschata / shrub rose

  • Uses: borders, naturalistic gardens, combined with perennials

Thanks to its soft colour and loose blooming habit, this rose is particularly well suited to gardens with a natural or romantic atmosphere.

Japanese Rose BI – beauty with meaning

This rose is part of Belle Epoque’s Japanese Rose BI selection.
BI (美) stands for beauty that goes beyond appearance alone – beauty with emotion, remembrance, and tranquillity.

Song of Hiroshima is a wonderful example of this.
