Emperor of Morocco at a glance
Empereur du Maroc draws attention with its deep, velvety color. The full flowers combine dark crimson with burgundy and purple nuances. They open fairly flat, with the petals arranged in quarters. A strong old-rose fragrance with fruity notes makes it particularly appealing.
This French rose was bred in 1858 by Bertrand Guinoisseau and introduced to the market by Eugène Verdier. Its name means ‘Emperor of Morocco’. It belongs to the repeat-flowering roses: a historic rose group that became popular because the shrubs could produce flowers again after their first bloom.
Its historical value lies in this combination of repeat flowering, pronounced fragrance, and exceptionally dark flower color. With Empereur du Maroc, you bring a piece of nineteenth-century rose culture into your garden.
The main flowering period is in June, followed by a more modest bloom later in the summer. Its dark flowers create a beautiful contrast with soft pink roses and light-colored perennials.
Empereur du Maroc requires good care to grow at its best. Give it fertile, well-drained soil and sufficient water. A spot with morning sun and protection from the intense afternoon sun helps keep the flowers looking beautiful.

Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
"Beautiful climbing rose, bloomed abundantly in the very first year! Well packaged and exactly what I expected based on the description. Belle Époque truly delivers top quality."
"The rose is well packaged and looks beautiful. Fast delivery, and the personal advice via email was very valuable — I wasn’t sure where to plant it."
"Amazing quality & service. I ordered two New Dawns and they are developing beautifully in the garden. Fast shipping from Aalsmeer to Belgium — would absolutely order again."
