Alba Maiden's Blush at a glance
With Rosa ‘Maiden’s Blush’, you bring a piece of living rose history into your garden. This historic rose dates back to before 1400 and belongs to the old Alba roses. Its exact origin is not known with certainty: sources mention both France and England. It is also known as Great Maiden’s Blush and by the French name Cuisse de Nymphe.
Maiden’s Blush loosely translates as ‘a young girl’s blush’. A fitting name for its delicate, soft pink flower colour. The French name means ‘thigh of a nymph’, which likewise evokes the romantic comparison with a soft skin tone. It is unclear who originally gave it these names.
Its large, loosely double rosette flowers spread a rich, classic rose fragrance. Maiden’s Blush blooms once each summer and makes that flowering period a special occasion. The hardy shrub grows to approximately 150 cm tall and 125 cm wide and also tolerates partial shade. Beautiful in a romantic border or rose hedge, for lovers of fragrant garden roses with a centuries-old story.
Forty years of nothing but roses
Belle Époque is a family business, not a wholesaler. From our greenhouses in Aalsmeer, we have been growing only roses for over four decades — and every plant we send out is personally selected by us. This way, you receive not a catalog rose, but a plant ready to grow.
