This is how you turn a fence with climbing roses into a sea of flowers
A climbing rose is a wonderful solution for an ugly fence or wall. The rose covers the view and also smells wonderful. In this article, we explain step-by-step how to approach it.
Which climbing rose do you choose?
Buying a climbing rose that grows against a wall or fence is a beautiful, lush sight. Choose a color you like and that fits well with the surroundings. Climbing roses come in all colors; white, red, orange, purple, and champagne. Besides the color, you can choose a climbing rose with large flowers (large-flowered) or small flowers, the latter we call rambler roses. Finally, you can choose a fragrant rose or not. In the menu on our website, you can select the options.
How many climbing roses do you need?
The number of roses you need depends on your patience. Do you want to cover the area quickly? Plant the climbing roses closer together. As a rule of thumb for dense coverage, we recommend planting a climbing rose every 50 centimeters.

How to plant a climbing rose
Planting a rose is simple. The most important thing is to choose a spot that gets at least four hours of sun per day. Roses need sun and the more sun a rose gets, the faster it grows. Do not dig the hole too close to the wall or fence. The soil there is often poor, and you risk the rose drying out. In our planting instructions, we explain this to you in detail.
Training a climbing rose
You get the most beautiful effect when you train the branches of the climbing rose horizontally at about 30 centimeters apart. Do not prune the rose in the first years, but let it grow vigorously. On our website, you will find all the information about pruning climbing roses. Want immediate results? Then check out our assortment of XL-climbing roses.
