Bare Root Rose Plants: Step-by-Step Guide for Open Ground

Blote Wortel Rozen Planten: Stapsgewijze Handleiding voor de Volle Grond - Belle Epoque

Preparing Bare Root Start by placing the roots of your bare root roses in a bucket of cold water before you begin planting. This helps the roots to hydrate and prepare for their new surroundings.

Step 1: Dig a Planting Hole Loosen the soil well with a spade and dig a hole large enough. Make sure the hole is wide enough so the roots can lie freely without being folded. The depth should be such that the graft union (where the main side shoots begin) is about 5 cm below the ground. This prevents wild growth and protects the rose from frost.

Step 2: Add Garden Soil With your other hand, add 3 to 4 handfuls of garden soil or rose soil into the planting hole.

Step 3: Firm the Soil Press the soil firmly with your foot so that it closes nicely around the fine roots of the plant.

Step 4: Water Water the rose well so the roots become nicely moist. Repeat this especially during dry periods, except when it is freezing.
