About Japanese Rose BI – Kibo (Hope) (NEW 2026)

Japanese Rose BI – Kibō is a powerful and expressive Japanese rose with a striking interplay of colors. Its flowers combine strawberry red with a bright yellow reverse, creating a warm, lively contrast. This is a rose that radiates energy while bringing optimism and cheerfulness to the garden.

Kibō is distinctive, but never coarse. She has character and balance.

The meaning of the name

Kibō (希望) means Hope in Japanese. The name symbolizes trust, the future, and positivity. You can immediately see that feeling reflected in this rose: color, strength, and vitality come together in a single flower.

Within the Japanese Rose BI selection, Kibō represents looking ahead and zest for life.

Japanese origin & breeding

Kibō was bred by Seizo Suzuki in Japan, before 1985.
In 1986, it was introduced in Japan by Keisei Rose Nurseries under the name Kibō, and in Europe by Meilland et Cie.

Parentage:

  • Liberty Bell™ × Kagayaki

This combination explains its strong color contrast, large flowers, and reliable growth.

Flower & flowering

  • Flower color: red with a yellow reverse
(also described as rouge fraise & jaune citron)

  • Flower form: very large and full (up to approximately 30 petals)

  • Diameter: approx. 12–13 cm

  • Fragrance: none to light

  • Flowering: in waves throughout the season

Despite its floribunda background, Kibō has flower sizes reminiscent of hybrid tea roses, making it especially eye-catching.

Growth & use in the garden

Japanese Rose BI – Kibō develops into a vigorous, well-branched shrub.

  • Height: approx. 80–120 cm

  • Type: floribunda

  • Position: sunny

  • Use: borders, rose beds, color accents

Japanese Rose BI – color with meaning

Kibō is part of Belle Epoque's Japanese Rose BI selection.
BI (美) stands for beauty with substance: roses that are not only beautiful, but also convey a feeling.

Kibō is a perfect example of this – a rose that radiates hope, both literally and figuratively.

Japanese Rose BI – Kibō is available exclusively from Belle Epoque and is part of the new Japanese garden rose range for 2026. A unique garden rose for enthusiasts who dare to choose color, strength, and meaning.
